28 April 2018

Well …. my contract with Kent State University is officially over in exactly three weeks from today, 19 May 2018.  At that point I’ll be starting a new chapter of my life.  I’ll be retiring after teaching a total of 33 years.  Not to sound cliché, but it seems like yesterday that I started teaching.

Everyone that hears the news does two things, they first congratulate me, and then they ask, “So…what do you plan to do after you retire?”  My answer, “I don’t know?  I’ll take it one day at a time.”  They then say things like, “Just think, you can sleep as late as you want to!”, or “You can fish 7 days a week!”  Actually .. no, I can’t do those things, nor do I really care to sleep the rest of my life away.  Yes I can fish more (which I plan to do), but I’m lucky to have an 11 old daughter in my life, and I plan to spend a lot of time with her.

So why write a blog?  I view this as a means to view my life from the outside > in.  View it through the eyes of my friends, family, and anyone else who may care to watch what this 66 year old does for the rest of his days.  I must admit, the blog really doesn’t have a theme to date.  I hope with time this may evolve, but to begin, I’ll just take it … one day at a time.
